Jackson Gets Tubes

After a suggestion from one of J's therapists, we had J see an ENT at the end of April.  The ENT decided J indeed would benefit from tubes, so yesterday J got ear tubes.  While it's a pretty common surgery, you just never know.  And being a mom, I was a little nervous about it.  I don't know why because I seriously have the happiest boy in the world.
Thankfully, we didn't have to be at the hospital until 8 am, so we didn't have to get up all that early.  I had envisioned waking J up at 5:30 to get him to a 6:30 appointment.  How it turned out was great because he woke up on his own at 7, and I was able to load him up in the car and head out.  We picked up RaRa on the way because Daddy couldn't come with us.

Let me just brag on my boy for a minute.  We arrived at 8 am and had to go back and wait until 9:25 when they took him back.  That's a LONG time for a 2 year old!!! I honestly think my mom and I were more impatient about the situation than J. There were kids all around us crying and screaming, but did J?  Nope.  He just played on our I-Phones and listened to "Happy" over and over.

Then, about 9:15 the nurses came and gave him "giggle juice."  It was actually a medicine that went up his nose.  Within about 3 minutes, he was super chill and a little loopy.  This next pic is after the "giggle juice."

He got super giggly and silly.

Then, he started looking a little "drunk."  In true J fashion, he never whined, cried, or fussed.

All the grandparents in the waiting room.

About 15 minutes after we left J, the doctor came out to tell us that it went well.  He had lots of thick fluid in his ears, but everything looked great!!!  Then, 15 minutes after that we went back because J was awake and in recovery.  He threw up the water and juice they gave him, but other than that it went perfectly.  Again, no crying or whining or screaming.  Pretty much all smiles.

Heading home with my sweet boy.

J wanted to use the barf bag as a hat. :)

Silly boy :)

We made it home and he wanted to check out the play house that Aunt Holly and cousins brought by the night before.  We played and snacked and he took a two and half hour afternoon nap.

You would never know J had tubes put in yesterday.  He is doing his normal J things and being his happy self.  He is such a good boy, and I couldn't be prouder to be his mommy!

Playing Catch Up!!!

I feel like I am playing catch up.  The last two weeks have flown by and I beyond ready for summer.  Here's what we've been up to lately...

1.  J receives physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.  He has been slower than the average kid in walking and talking.  For many parents their kids climbing to the top of McDonald's playground probably seems like no big deal.  To us, it is a huge accomplishment.  Last week J climbed all the way to the top by himself, and I was so proud!!!  He was proud and excited, too!!!  In fact, like most kids he didn't want to leave.  :)

2.  Last week we had a guy come clean up our yard.  He pulled weeds, trimmed bushes, and put out 25 bags of mulch.  Our yard looks soooo much better!!!  The night before he came we made a trip to Home Depot and J had the best time riding on the cart with all the bags.

3.  We might have a new show.  I say might because he still doesn't watch a whole episode, but he has requested it a few times.  Chuggington.  Let me just say it's a beating to watch.  As I type this, I am singing the song in my head.

4.  J got new sneakers last week.  It was at the request of his PT.  Who knew shoes with laces would be so hard to find!!!  I really think he walks more confidently in them because the laces allow him to have a snugger fit and feel more secure.

5.  Mimi got J a portable DVD player for our Florida beach trip next month.  J was in heaven the 24 hours we had it in the car.  Who knew watching Mickey in the car could be so much fun!!! Here's to hoping it makes our 12 hour road trip more fun!!!

6.  Last Thursday night we went to Owen's Pre-K graduation.  It was so cute!!

7.  We also had our first trip to the new Chickfila by our house last Saturday.  The line was out the door, so we opted to go through the drive thru.

8.  This boy loves him some chips and salsa!  Just one of the many things I love about him!

9.  On Memorial Day, Tony, Holly, and cousins came over for a pancake breakfast.  It was a fun, kind of spontaneous get together.  I love that we live three streets apart so we can do things like this, and it not be a big deal.  I hope we can do more of this, especially over the summer!!!

 10.  Then, on Memorial Day night we truly had a spontaneous trip to Babe's Chicken.  Certainly not a place you go everyday, but it was so delicious!!!

11.  With all the rain the last few days, it has been so beautiful and almost chilly outside.  We enjoyed some sidewalk chalk drawing.

12.   Since J was born, we have been horrible about going to church on Wednesday nights.  Now, that J is older and bed time is a little more flexible we are determined to get back into it.  This past Wednesday was our first attempt.  Here's to accountability!!!

13.  I am rounding out the random list of pics with a water "ra" picture.  J loves "ra."  Last night, he wanted to water the flowers with water from his water table.  Let's just say those flowers may be dead because they got so much water.

Happy Weekend!!!

Recipe Link Up: Strawberry Shortcake

Hello!!!
If you are new to my blog, I just got a much needed makeover last week.  I am so in love with it!!! I also changed the name of my title to Memories of May.  I added the reason behind my new name up in my navigation bar.  If you have any interest in that, just click Why Memories of May?

Today, I am so excited to be linking up with Andrea at Momfessionals

This recipe is a favorite of my hubby's.  I have been making it for several years because Aaron loves it! Plus, it's so EASY!!!

The last time I made it was in January for Aaron's birthday, but with summer almost here I know I will be making it again really soon.  Here is where I originally got the recipe.  It is by Sandra Lee, so of course it uses shortcuts and timesavers which I am ALL about!!!

Ingredients:
Can of Grands Biscuits
2 pints of strawberries
3/4 c. Sugar, divided
1 tsp.Cinnamon
8 oz. tub of Cool Whip
1 c. Sour Cream

Bake biscuits according to package directions.  While they are baking, cut up strawberries and add 1/4 to 1/2 c. of sugar and stir. Cover strawberries and put in fridge, so they get good and juicy.
Empty tub of Cool Whip into a separate bowl and fold in sour cream.  In another bowl take your remaining sugar and mix in cinnamon to make cinnamon sugar.
When biscuits are finished baking, remove from oven and cut open.  Immediately dredge each half of biscuit in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Now, you can begin assembling your shortcake by adding strawberries and cream mixture and stacking it as high as you like. :)

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my strawberry shortcake loving hubby does!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Look at my New Blog Design!!!

My blog finally got a much needed makeover!!!
If you know me, you know it took me FOREVER to decide on this.  I have looked and looked all over the internet the last few weeks for someone to do my new design.  I was looking not only for designs but reasonably priced ones.  I didn't want to spend $200 on a new design.  I did a lot of blog hopping looking at where different bloggers got their designs from.  I looked all over etsy.  I looked A LOT!!!  Aaron kept asking if I had found a new design.  He knows me too well.  He knew it would be a LONG process for me to decide.

This past Sunday after lots of searching I went with Theresa Bluhm.  Her shop is called Always in Bluhm on etsy.  Isn't that a cute name? She had lots of premade templates, and one in particular I just kept going back to week after week.  I just loved it.  I wanted it to be uniquely mine though so I finally emailed her and asked if I could change the background to a different color. She emailed back quickly telling me that would be totally doable. And there you have it. A new blog design.

The thing that drew me to the template was the font in the title. I loved the lettering!!!  Instead of the chevron that the original template had, I asked for a variegated stripes in blues, greens, pinks, oranges, and corals.  Then, I sent her a pic of a striped rug I liked for inspiration.

I can't say enough good things about Theresa.  She was fast and so accommodating.  If you are looking for a new design contact her.

I will try to get another post up soon!!! I just had to tell you about my new design!

You may be wondering why I named the blog, Memories of May.  That is another post I will get to later.  I promise!!!

Happy Weekend!!!

Super Fun Weekend

Another fun weekend has come and gone, and it makes me even more ready for summer.

Friday night RaRa and BaBa took J to the Rangers game and had him spend the night.

All decked out in their Rangers gear.

My mom sent me this pic of J at the game.  It's a shame he isn't having fun!!! :)

While J was at the game, we went on a date night and saw Godzilla.  It was pretty good, but the company was better. :)

Then on Saturday morning, I went and got a much needed haircut and highlights.  It had been 7 months since my last haircut and a year since my last highlights.  Pitiful, I know.  Too bad I don't take selfies by myself or you could see my hair. :)

While I was getting my haircut, J was having a blast on the train around the FW zoo with RaRa and BaBa.  He leads a rough life, don't you think?

After meeting my parents for lunch, we brought J home and spent some time in the floor looking at all the books Aunt Holly gave us that the cousins used to read.

After J's nap and dinner, we played outside.

Here's the scene from the evening.  Aaron just recently started really working with J on his speech.  J is very behind on his speech development, which is why he receives therapy once a week.  Aaron is determined he should say "Please Daddy" or "Please Mommy" when he wants something.  Let's just say J struggles with single words, so putting two words together is very challenging.  We are working on it, but it's challenging.  How do you think this "Please Daddy" is going based on this picture?

Then, a trip to our fav- Yummilicious!!!

J LOVED the fan!!!

Look at J in church on Sunday!!! Crazy boy!!! He's trying to escape our pew!

My mom and I on our way home from a church wedding shower.  We both were wearing blue, so I decided to take a selfie of us for my Instagram photo challenge of the day.

We ended our weekend at a college graduation party for Matt and Julianne.  Sadly, this is the only pic I got.  J on the back porch chasing one of the party balloons.

Happy Monday, almost Tuesday!!!

Five on Friday

It's J's nap time.  I just mopped the kitchen floor.  I did something productive, right?  So now I am going to blog a little.  I am linking up with Darci and friends for Five on Friday.

-ONE-

We went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond on Monday to exchange my Mothers Day present.  J had the best time looking at the mixers and the fans.  Note to self, if I run out of things to entertain J in the summer, I need to take him to BBB to look at home appliances.

-TWO-

This is what I got for Mothers Day.  I actually went to BBB to exchange the one Aaron got me, which was larger and more expensive for the one above.  It is a Breville compact juicer.  They had to order it and mail it to me.  I am so excited to start playing around with juicing.  I am really hoping I can get some veggies down J in the form of juice.

-THREE-
I ran a quick errand on Wednesday night and left my boys playing in the water table.

-FOUR-
Yesterday was Career Day. It's the one school day a year that is all mine.  Which is good and bad and stressful.  If it were all on me, I would be okay, but having to depend on other professionals who are volunteering there time to show up makes me even more stressed.  They are so many variables that could go wrong.  Thankfully, it went really well.  Not quite as well as last year because I had 2 presenters that very last minute couldn't come and present, so I had to go to back up plans.  I love doing it every year, but I am more than glad to say it's over.

-FIVE-
We have been looking at getting a swing set for the backyard for J, but I have been dragging my feet because of course I don't know which one to get.  Who knew there were so many options!!!  Wood, plastic, metal.  Really expensive or really cheap.  I am leaning toward the one above from Walmart.  It's only $199, and it has a lot of different things on one set.  I am mainly worried it might be too old for J.  It look perfect for a 5 year old.  Anybody have thoughts on swing sets that aren't too expensive?

That's all for now.  I am excited because my parents are taking J to a Rangers game and keeping him overnight.  So we are going on a date to see a movie!!!  Now, I understand why parents of little children never go to the movies!!!  I can't remember the last movie I saw!!!

Have a great weekend!!!
